Join Katie Schur, Founder of Perfect Picnic, for a look back through time at picnic style and practices from the late 1800s through today.

Picnicking is a pastime that helps us reconnect with the world around us while dining out in the open air. In this session, we’ll explore how picnics have evolved over the years from informal outdoor meals to the modern day celebrations that we love today. Attendees will get a glimpse into the menus and people who’ve shaped al fresco dining trends over several centuries. We’ll also envision the stories behind several key pieces from the Fruitland Museum’s current exhibit, “Leisure Pursuits: The Fashion and Culture of Recreation.” Katie will recreate several picnic settings inspired by the meals that were served at English garden parties and Victorian-era picnics. Come ready to sample a few tasty treats!

This program is presented in conjunction with current exhibition, "Leisure Pursuits: The Fashion and Culture of Recreation." Romp with us through the decades as we share the history of sporting and leisure events in Massachusetts, told through the clothing worn by families whose properties became part of The Trustees. Part of the Mass Fashion Consortium.
